Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines’ joint venture SunExpress is preparing for a change at the top management level. The SunExpress Board of Directors early today set the stage for the future, as SunExpress Managing Director Paul Schwaiger’s contract expires in July 2015.
After 15 successful years as Managing Director of SunExpress, Paul Schwaiger will turn over this position to Jaan Albrecht. To ensure continuity and an orderly transfer of management of the Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines joint venture, Jaan Albrecht will assume both the management of the parent company in Antalya as well as the subsidiary company SunExpress Germany in Frankfurt. His office will be in Antalya. To ensure a smooth transition Paul Schwaiger will actively shape the change in management and provide support to Jaan Albrecht until mid-July.
Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the SunExpress Board of Directors, Coşkun Kılıç and Stefan Lauer stated: “With Paul Schwaiger goes not only a very successful airline boss and tourism expert from on-board, but at the same time a highly respected pioneer in the development of tourism between Turkey, Germany and Europe. The Board of Directors is therefore all the more pleased to be able to gain an experienced and dedicated manager such as Jaan Albrecht for SunExpress. Jaan has acquired an excellent reputation due to the success in his role as long-time CEO of Star Alliance and Austrian Airlines, also in Turkey.”
Since 2011 Jaan Albrecht has been the CEO of Austrian Airlines AG. Prior to this he was the CEO of Star Alliance for 10 years. He began his career as a pilot for the Mexican airline Mexicana. There he worked for 20 years as a First Officer, a Captain and Chief Pilot of the Boeing 727 fleet, prior to moving into management in 1990 and held various senior level positions in operational and commercial areas.
Jaan Albrecht holds Mexican and German citizenship and speaks Spanish, English and German fluently.
