SunExpress has disclosed plans to add six Boeing 737-800s this year, bringing its fleet total to 72 aircraft.
General manager Jens Bischof acknowledges that 2016 was "a hard year" for the Turkish Airlines-Lufthansa joint venture, as passenger numbers fell 9% amid declines in tourism to the Antalya region. "We still hope this year is recovering," he adds.
Wet-leasing is a leading business for SunExpress. The airline operates 28 737-800s for Turkish Airlines subsidiary Anadolu Jet and six Airbus A330s for Lufthansa unit Eurowings.
