This year, World Economic Forum announced 187 people from 62 countries as Young Global Leaders. Besides Ms. Geriş, McKinsey partner Bengi Korkmaz and MP Şafak Pavey were selected to the Forum from Turkey. 18 outstanding figures of Turkey including Ali Koç, Ferit Şahenk, Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ, Suzan Sabancı Dinçer, Özlem Denizmen, Murat Özyeğin, Erdem Başçı, Ali Babacan, Egemen Bağış, Osman Boyner ve Serpil Timuray had been selected to the Forum since the inception of the program in 2004.
The Forum of Young Global Leaders is a unique, multi-stakeholder community of more than a thousand exceptional young leaders. The community is made up of leaders under 40, from academia, business and art world, NGOS or among politicians. Young Global Leaders is an integral part of the World Economic Forum. YGLs have a powerful role in determining the community’s activities.
ABOUT BURCU GERİŞ
Burcu Geriş graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of Business Administration in 1999 and received her MBA degree from London Business School and Columbia Business School. Ms. Geriş started her professional career at Garanti Bank where she took part in the financing of a series of privatization, infrastructure and energy projects from 1999 until 2005. She has 15 years of professional experience in project finance, corporate finance and treasury. Joining TAV Airports in 2005, Burcu Geriş led the Project & Structured Finance Department of the Company between 2005 and 2012. During her tenure at TAV, she closed the financing and refinancing of eight airport projects in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Georgia, Tunisia, Macedonia, Medinah and Zagreb airports worth a total of US$ 4.5 billion as well as taking part in several share sales processes. Ms. Geriş holds board member positions in TAV subsidiaries as well as being a member of Women Corporate Directors, Professional Women’s Network, Bogazici, LBS and CBS Alumni Associations. She was selected as a Rising Talent in 2013 by Women’s Forum. Each year 16 women from around the world who are under 40 years old and who have the capacity and potential to shape the future are selected to the Rising Talents program. Ms. Geriş has been voted Best CFO in Investor Relations-2nd in Turkey and 4th in European Transport Sector by Thomson Reuters Extel Surveys in 2014. Married with two children, Ms. Geriş is fluent in English and French.
